Houztekk Records

Reading time: min.

26. March 2025

Detroit-influenced deepness, straightforward techno, sophisticated jazz house variations and electronic playfulness - the music of the Linz-based label Houztekk moves between these cornerstones. The project was launched around 20 years ago in a grandmother's garage. Since the early nineties, the progressive free spirits have not only demonstrated a great passion for music, but also a keen sense for new trends in club culture.

What distinguishes "Houztekk Records" from other labels?

Probably our release policies. We see our artists and our discography as a kind of total work of art. For example, "yesterday" we released an experimental 7",
then a club-oriented techno record, today dialect pop for midday radio and tomorrow hardcore bass for the deepest underground. I wouldn't say that it makes no difference to us, it does - but we try to be like life itself in our own way. Varied & challenging. Houztekk has been around for 22 years (the label since 2008), so this wealth of experience certainly plays a role.

Which artists or producers stand out in your catalog?

Akjela: SHE was the singer for Thomas D., Lena Meyer-Landrut and Gregor Meyle. HE was the drummer for Peter Cornelius.

Mussurunga: the guys behind the brutal art & very physical performance group "Fuckhead".

Certainly also "Ritornell" the drum virtuoso who drums for Flying Lotus.

And the future work of "!MMM", who comes from the hardcore sound system and tribes scene, could also be exciting.

How did you find the artists and bands who are on the label?

Most of them approached us. We also listen to demos if they are presented in an exciting way.

What marketing measures do you use to promote your releases?

Everything and nothing. We often put a lot into radio sampling & Facebook marketing. Then we promote a release exclusively through live gigs. At the moment we have TV spots running and other times a release comes and we just say "Hi, here's our new record". It's very different for us.

What are the current trends in club culture and how do you react to them as a label?

The current trends are rather secondary for us. Our DJs take care of that. Our job as a label is to determine the trends of tomorrow!
