When and how was Metropolitan Recordings founded?
Metropolitan Recordings is a project by Patrizio Mattei and Danny Omich (Daniele Omicciolo) and was founded in 2010.
Does social media play an important role in the marketing of your music?
Yes, definitely! We promote our music on our Facebook page, for example by broadcasting live videos from our events, but we also promote our artists through efficient audience targeting (such as country, city, club and genre selection).
How does A&R work at Metropolitan Recordings?
Patrizio Mattei and Danny Omich are the A&R managers at Metropolitan Recordings. They also run two sub-labels: Cut Rec and Taste of Honey. Cut specializes in old school vibes, from nu disco to garage sounds, while Taste of Honey puts out more deepe electronic music. Patrizio and Danny also work at one of the best dance radios in Italy, M2O (with two million daily radio listeners).
What is the state of the music industry in Italy?
The underground music scene has declined in recent years and there are many reasons for this. Currently, old school is popular again. We have been able to capitalize on this resurgence, but unfortunately not in Italy: 80% of Metropolitan's sales were generated abroad. Italian labels don't export that much music, on the contrary, music is imported on a massive scale, and this creates dependency and very few innovative ideas. Nevertheless, we believe that the situation will improve in the future.
What distinguishes Metropolitan Rec. from other labels?
Metropolitan is first and foremost a brand. We organize events, have a clothing line, a radio show and so on. Nevertheless, everything is always about the most important thing for us - our music.
