YouTube paid subscription service is taking shape and is expected to be available within the next few months.
Google’s video site will charge $10 a month for extra features and exclusive content. Premium users will have access to ad-free videos and will be able to store videos offline as well as to put them behind a paywall so that only premium subscribers can view them. According to a YouTube spokesman, the service (which has no name yet) will give creators “more opportunity to earn revenue” and is intended to release ad-free content with YouTube Music Key, the company’s streaming service launched in beta version.
